IBM recently acquired new data integration products StreamSets and webMethods which enable businesses to unlock the full potential of their data.
IBM purchased the two iPaaS (integration platform-as-a-service) platforms from Germany-based enterprise software company Software AG for €2.13 billion.
StreamSets and webMethods are considered to be among the leading products in application integration, API management, and data integration.
These types of solutions are critical for organisations looking to advance their digital transformation by modernising applications and enabling the use of AI across the business.
IBM’s investment in AI and data integration
The investment reflects IBM’s ongoing commitment to AI and hybrid cloud. Rob Thomas, IBM’s VP of Software said the acquisitions ‘give IBM clients and partners one of the most modern and comprehensive application and data integration platforms in the industry.’
Together with IBM’s Watsonx AI and data platform, application modernisation, data fabric and IT automation products, StreamSets and webMethods help businesses to ‘unlock the full potential of their applications and data’ and ‘drive innovation while preparing for AI, no matter where applications or data reside.’
What the iPaas platforms offer
StreamSets is a cloud-native DataOps and data ingestion platform. This means it is able to accept different types of data from a wide variety of sources. For example, this may include structured database data, unstructured data from documents and files, plus data streamed from IoT sensors. This enables enterprises to both access and deliver a wide range of different data types, including real-time data.
webMethods is an integration and API management platform offering B2B integration and managed file transfer. The platform also provides a gateway to monitor and monetise APIs. webMethods is designed to be deployed both on-prem and in the cloud.
The platforms allow businesses to access the full potential of their data. When integrated with IBM’s existing AI and cloud services, they fulfill a comprehensive range of business requirements and provide an efficient and scalable solution.
IBM and Red Hat hybrid cloud foundations
Thousands of both government and corporate organisations depend on IBM’s hybrid cloud platform and Red Hat OpenShift for their digital transformations.
Advanced hybrid cloud capabilities allow organisations the seamless integration of on-prem and cloud-based data systems. Combined with IBM’s next-generation enterprise AI solutions, they enable real-time data processing and integration, essential for the data-driven decision-making necessary to gain a competitive edge.
